Luncheon Held At Chicago Cultural Center For Family Of Fallen Service Members

(CBS) -- A few dozen family members gathered Sunday at the Chicago Cultural Center to remember those they lost that were stationed overseas, reports WBBM's Mariam Sobh.

It was the annual Gold Star Mothers luncheon. But it wasn't just mothers in attendance. There were fathers and siblings on hand as well as Governor Bruce Rauner.

"My job is to help you have a better life in any way I can, for you, your loved ones, your children and your children's children," Rauner said. "That's what America is about, a better life through freedom and opportunity for our families from one generation to the next."

The luncheon takes place on the last Sunday of September nationwide.

The event is a way for families to come together and remember the children they lost as well as find support as they mourn their loved ones.
