CHICAGO (CBS) -- A missing Loyola University student has been found healthy and safe, according to a Loyola spokesman.

Lucas Fleisher, 21, had been missing since 7:19 p.m. Monday where he was last seen at a Walgreens at Irving Park and Sheridan, according to an alert sent out to the Loyola community by Campus Safety.

He had spent this past weekend in Ann Arbor, Mich., where his mother Barbara Stewart lives.

"He texted me shortly before he was supposed to come over here to the house on Sunday, and said he was having trouble, and he wanted to get back to Chicago," she said. "I don't know what that means."

Stewart said when her son has disappeared in the past, he's always at least stayed in touch with his sister. This time, he's not done that.

Lucas Fleisher started at Loyola in January. He's studying nursing and philosophy.

Stewart said her son he has been courageous in his activism.

"He came out as gay about three or four years ago. And he's made quite a few contributions to that cause through his political activism."

Fleisher had missed several appointments with friends and was not responding to emails or calls, according to the alert.
