Longtime Newsradio Anchor Dave Mitchell Dies

CHICAGO (CBS) -- It has been a very difficult day here in the WBBM Newsroom as we cope with the sudden loss of our dear friend and colleague Dave Mitchell.

The longtime WBBM Newsradio anchor died after a crash this morning in Merrillville, Indiana.

Dave has been a member of the WBBM team since 1992, working as a traffic reporter at the Sears Skydeck during both drivetimes, as a reporter/anchor, and even a stint as weekend sports reporter. He also contributed to Newsradio's coverage of the Chicago Air and Water Show every year.

"Dave Mitchell was a bright, thoughtful and eager veteran journalist; a consummate professional. He was one of the good guys, dedicated to his craft whether in studio or overlooking the Chicago Air and Water Show where he thrived. We loved him, and will miss him greatly. Our thoughts are with his wife and his children," said WBBM Newsradio Managing Editor Julie Mann.

Dave has been a full time broadcaster since 1973, at several stations in Chicagoland.

Dave was also a dedicated husband, father and friend. He was 60 years old.
