Autopsy: Longtime Brother Rice Teacher Stabbed To Death
ORLAND PARK, Ill. (CBS) -- A longtime and popular teacher was found stabbed to death in his Orland Park home.
An autopsy revealed Al Filan, 61, had died of multiple stab wounds. Police have ruled the death a homicide.
Police found the body during a well-being check after Filan didn't show up for work.
"This is just a devastating loss for our staff, his colleagues," said Brother Rice President Dr. Kevin Burns.
Orland Park Police have issued a statement this afternoon, saying there is no reason to believe there's an immediate threat to the community.
Al Filan taught at Brother Rice High School for 40 years.
"He was a leader on the staff. He was a mainstay. He was admired, respected. He was a mentor to many of our younger staff members. They looked up to him. He was a beloved faculty member," said Burns.
Filan was a computer programming and business teacher at Brother Rice.
"Always went the extra mile for his students. There's no question this is a huge loss for everyone at Brother Rice," said Burns.
He had an impact in all grades at the high school. He also coached soccer and basketball.
"He really shined here at Brother Rice with the colleagues. Anybody you talked to, had an ultimate respect," said Brother Rice Principal Jim Antos.
"I'm gonna miss him. I'm gonna miss him," said former student Adam Fischer.
Years later, Adam Fischer's league team name themselves after Al Filan.
"Our team name was Al's warriors. One of his favorite saying 'was sit down and quit embarrassing your parents,' so we got that on the back of our shirts.
