Loaded Gun Found In Man's Carry-On At Midway

CHICAGO (CBS) -- A loaded gun in a carry-on bag at Midway Airport has cost a Naperville man a night in jail, and it could mean a stiff fine.

A Transportation Security Administration (TSA) spokesman tells WBBM there is no suspicion of terrorism in the arrest mid-afternoon Tuesday of 28-year-old Kevin Reed, who was attempting to board a plane for Detroit when an X-ray scanner detected the loaded .38-caliber Taurus Titan handgun.

Reed was arrested without incident. He faces a felony charge of attempting to board an aircraft with a weapon. A Central Bond Court judge Wednesday released him on a $100,000 personal recognizance bond. But the TSA could fine Reed between $1,500 and $11,000.

The gun is the first seized at Midway Airport this year. Last year, screeners found six guns.
