Girl, 14, Charged With Trying To Rob Woman Who Shot Her In The Chest

CHICAGO (CBS) -- A 14-year-old girl has been charged with attempted armed robbery, after hitting a woman in the head with a pellet gun in the Little Village neighborhood on Friday evening, prompting the woman to shoot her in the chest.

Police said the teenager arranged to meet with 21-year-old Araceli Diaz on the sidewalk in the 2300 block of South Drake Avenue around 5:45 p.m. Friday to buy a dog from her.

The girl pulled out a pellet gun, and hit Diaz in the head, in an attempt to rob her of the dog, according to police.

Diaz then pulled out a handgun and shot the girl in the chest. The girl was taken to Stroger Hospital in serious condition.

Police said, while Diaz has a valid Firearm Owner's Identification card, she does not have a concealed carry license. She has been charged with one count of felony aggravated unlawful use of a weapon. She was due to appear in bond court Sunday afternoon.

The 14-year-old girl has been charged with one count of felony attempted armed robbery. She was due to appear in Juvenile Court on Dec. 9.
