Listen: Ron Coomer On Cubs, Chemistry, Ben Zobrist

(CBS) A nine-year MLB veteran himself, radio analyst Ron Coomer called the MLB-leading Cubs one of the tightest groups of players he's ever seen.

"I don't think I've been on a team that's this close," Coomer said on the Mully and Hanley Show on Tuesday morning.

"This is a really, really tight group."

Coomer credited the front office for bringing in players who fit the team's culture, and that includes second baseman Ben Zobrist, who's hitting .317 with five homers, 28 RBIs and a .932 OPS in his first season in Chicago.

"In talking to Joe Maddon, he talks a lot about winning baseball players and how certain guys bring more to the table," Coomer said.

"You know the guys that are winning players. Ben Zobrist, he really knows how to play the game, and he can adjust his game to what is needed at the time ... Bringing in a veteran like him, along with (John) Lackey, they're stabilizing forces for the young guys."
