Listen: Brian Urlacher On Lovie Smith, Bears

(CBS) With former Bears coach Lovie Smith leading the Bucs into town for a Sunday matchup, there's no shortage of storylines around Chicago.

One that's been somewhat overlooked because of the 4-6 Bears' struggles is that the Bucs are just 2-8 in Smith's first year. But the centerpiece of Smith's defenses for his nine years in Chicago doesn't think that will last long.

"We'll shoot a text back and forth … nothing lengthy," Brian Urlacher said in an interview on the Spiegel and Mannelly Show on Wednesday morning. "Just 'good job' or 'what happened?'

"He's trying to change the culture down there to the way he wants it to be. I don't see that being an issue for him much longer."

Urlacher also talked about the Bears' underachieving season, saying it's hard to put into words.

"Sometimes you have those years," Urlacher said. "I don't know what else to say -- the 50-point games, it just snowballed. Things just went downhill in a hurry, and (the opponents) got on a roll.

"I get why the fans are mad. I understand that, but maybe you have to go through these times to get better."
