Fire breaks out in basement of vacant hotel in Lincoln Park

CHICAGO (CBS)-- Heavy smoke and fire were reported coming from a vacant hotel building in Lincoln Park on Diversey Parkway Friday.

According to the Chicago Fire Department, the first started in a basement story area for fuel in the four-story building at 601 W. Diversey Pkwy. 

This is a vacant hotel building currently under construction. Originally the Bentmere Hotel, it had most recently been the Inn at Lincoln Park and immediately before that, a Comfort Inn.

Residents nearby reported smoke billowing from the chimney of the building.
