Life Is Sweet For 93-Year-Old Bennison's Baker

(CBS) -- Do you have a recipe for success that will keep you going well into your 90's? CBS 2's Vince Gerasole introduces us to a baker who you might say takes the cake.

At Bennison's Bakery in Evanston, the sweetest treat may be in the window. That's where most days you'll find 93-year-old Guy Downer decorating cakes.

"It's nice to produce something that somebody enjoys," he said.

He's been at it since he bought the bakery in 1967.

"There were times I was here at four in the morning," he said.

He may be a master at flowers and flourishes now, but at 43 this self-taught career changer was starting from scratch.

"He's 93 and still comes here four days a week," said his son Jory Downer. "That's enough inspiration in itself."

His son Jory and grand-children now run the bakery full time, having Guy around is icing on the cake.

Since the early difficult days Bennison's has grown considerably, and Guy credits his son.

"He's an amazing man," Guy said.

So the next time you walk buy the window here, remember the man inside knows the ingredients to happiness.

'I have a son, a grandson and a granddaughter that give me a hug and say 'I love you,' how can it be better than that?" Guy said.
