Levine: Chris Sale Tried To Confront Yordano Ventura In Royals Clubhouse

By Bruce Levine--

(CBS) After a benches-clearing brawl between the two teams Thursday night, White Sox ace pitcher Chris Sale tried to enter the Royals clubhouse around the eighth inning to confront Kansas City starter Yordano Ventura, sources confirmed to 670 The Score, but he wasn't allowed in the visitors' locker room amid his frustration.

Sale and Ventura were the starting pitchers in Kansas City's 3-2 win in 13 innings Thursday night, and both were ejected following a brawl at the end of the seventh inning that started when Ventura and White Sox outfielder Adam Eaton exchanged words.

White Sox pitcher Jeff Samardzija, Royals pitcher Edinson Volquez and Royals outfielder Lorenzo Cain were also ejected.

Both Sale and Ventura allowed two runs in seven innings.

Both teams are awaiting MLB's punishment, which is fully expected to be some form of suspensions in a feud that dates back to Opening Day between these clubs. It was then that Samardzija plunked Cain with a pitch. Cain thought it was intentional, though Samardzija denied that.

It's not clear what role Sale's post-ejection behavior may play in his punishment, but it certainly won't help.

On Thursday, White Sox slugger Jose Abreu was drilled by Ventura in the fourth inning. Sale responded by hitting Royals third baseman Mike Moustakas in the fifth inning before it all escalated at the end of the seventh inning.
