Legendary "60 Minutes" Correspondent Morley Safer Dies

CHICAGO (CBS) -- A week after his retirement from "60 Minutes," legendary CBS newsman Morley Safer has died at age 84.

Safer, who changed war reporting forever when he showed GIs burning the huts of Vietnamese villagers, and became the longest-serving correspondent on "60 Minutes," had been in declining health. He announced his retirement last week, after 46 years on the show.
