Lawndale Mother Cleared Of Child Endangerment In Baby's 2013 Death
CHICAGO (STMW) -- A Lawndale woman was found not guilty of child endangerment Wednesday, two years after her 7-month-old baby was discovered dead in the family's apartment.
Erica Hampton, 27, was acquitted by Judge Carol Howard, according to court records.
On a frigid day in December 2013, a neighbor found Lamya Hampton unresponsive in the family's apartment, wrapped up in her snowsuit and a blanket and lying in a car seat, authorities had said.
The neighbor went to the apartment after Lamya's older sister came to the door asking for food.
An autopsy was inconclusive.
Lamya's sisters, then 2 and 6, were unharmed. No adults were home.
Tyisha Kinsey, who had lived across the street and knew Hampton, told the Sun-Times two years ago: "She's a good person. I really can't understand how this happened. That's why it's so sad. God. She took care of those kids. I never seen her neglect them or anything."
