Lane, Ramp Reductions Scheduled On Eisenhower Starting Friday

CHICAGO (STMW) -- A new traffic configuration on the outbound Eisenhower Expressway west of the Kennedy Expressway will start Friday as part of a project to reconstruct the Jane Byrne Interchange.

I-290 will be reduced from four lanes to three lanes between Peoria and Racine Streets, and these lanes will be narrowed to 11 feet, according to a statement from the Illinois Department of Transportation.

The inbound Dan Ryan Expressway and Kennedy Expressway ramps to the outbound Eisenhower will merge to become one lane, IDOT said.

The new configuration will remain in effect until May 2016, and it is necessary for the construction of the new retaining walls and storm sewers, according to IDOT.
