Lane Closures Start Monday For Downtown Street Resurfacing

CHICAGO (CBS) -- Several downtown arterial streets will see lane closures throughout September as resurfacing work continues.

Work on Randolph began earlier this week, and resurfacing on Dearborn will begin Monday, according to a statement from the Chicago Department of Transportation. Randolph will be resurfaced from Michigan to Wacker and Dearborn will be resurfaced between Madison and Wacker. A one-block stretch of Clinton between Randolph and Lake will also be resurfaced.

Additionally, CDOT will build a new protected westbound bike lane on Randolph to complement the eastbound bike lane on Washington. Improvements will also be made on the Dearborn and Clinton bike lanes, CDOT said.

On Dearborn, the two-way bike lane will remain open throughout most of the construction. During the week of Sept. 19, the two-way bike lane will be resurfaced during overnight hours, CDOT said.

On Clinton Street, the work will change traffic patterns for cyclists. A temporary two-way bike lane on Clinton Street will be provided throughout the construction but advises riders to be cautious, CDOT stated.

The work on Randolph, Dearborn and Clinton follows extensive construction and utility upgrades in the Loop, CDOT said.
