Lamarr Houston Tears ACL, Will Miss Rest Of Season

(CBS) The Bears feared the worst, and that's what they got.

Chicago defensive end Lamarr Houston has suffered a torn ACL in his right knee, Bears general manager Phil Emery announced Monday. Houston will be out the rest of the season and will have to rehab it for six to eight months, Emery said.

Houston suffered the injury after jumping up in the air while celebrating a sack in the fourth quarter of his team's 51-23 loss to the Patriots on Sunday. Chicago was down 25 points at the time of Houston's sack, celebration and ensuing injury. New England had many of its backups in as well.

"The team paid a price," Emery said.

Houston apologized to the team Monday for his actions, Emery said.

Houston signed a five-year, $35 million contract this past offseason. He has 11 tackles and one sack in eight games.

"We were certainly very disappointed, but after looking at it, I know that the decision Lamarr made was a poor one, and the consequences not only hurt him but hurt our entire team," Bears coach Trestman said in an interview with Josh Liss on WBBM Newsradio on Monday morning.
