Chicago weekend shootings: 8 killed, 41 hurt during Labor Day weekend

CHICAGO (CBS) -- At least eight people were killed, and 41 others were hurt in shootings across Chicago during Labor Day weekend. The ages of the victims range from 6 to 53. 

In the weekend's first shooting, a 34-year-old man was shot and killed in the 2700 block of West 38th Street in Brighton Park Friday evening. 

Police said around 5:30 p.m., the victim was standing in the rear of a residence when an unknown, red-colored Jeep drove by, and someone from inside fired shots- striking the victim.

He was shot in the armpit, taken to Mt. Sinai Hospital in critical condition, and later pronounced dead.

Less than an hour later, a man between 19 and 24 was hurt in a shooting in the 3800 block of South Wentworth Avenue around 6:15 p.m.

The victim was outside when three unknown offenders on foot fired shots, striking the victim. He suffered a gunshot wound to the side and was pronounced dead, according to police. 

Later in the evening, two teens were shot following a high school football game in Woodlawn.

The shooting happened around 10:16 p.m. in the 1500 block of East 64th Street.

Police officers arrived at the scene and found a 16-year-old girl with a gunshot wound to the foot. A 15-year-old boy also suffered a gunshot wound to the abdomen. Both were taken to Comer Children's Hospital, where the girl was listed in good condition, and the boy was in critical condition. 

The Civilian Office of Police Accountability is investigating after Chicago police officers fired shots at a female suspect on the Far South Side.

Police said, in a statement, officers responded to the 9900 block of South Ewing Avenue just after 2 a.m. for a report of a person with a gun and located a male and female in the area.

The female offender produced a firearm, and officers discharged their weapons but did not make contact.

The female offender fled on foot, and the male was questioned by police and released. A search for the female offender is still ongoing.

No officers were injured. However, two officers were transported to a local hospital as a precaution. A weapon was also recovered.

The Officer(s) involved will be placed on routine administrative duties for 30 days. 

A man died following a crash that led to a shooting in Garfield Park Saturday afternoon. According to the Chicago Police Department, around 4:20 p.m. in the 3800 block of West Madison, a 30-year-old man was in a vehicle when he struck an unknown male. That male then got out a gun and shot the vehicle's driver multiple times. The victim was transported to Mount Sinai Hospital, where he died. 

A 13-year-old boy is in critical condition after he was shot in the head in the Englewood neighborhood. The boy was near the sidewalk in the 6000 block of South Elizabeth just after 7 p.m. Sunday when he was struck. He was transported to Comer Children's Hospital, where he was initially reported in critical condition. 

Less than two hours earlier, a 6-year-old boy was hospitalized after he was shot inside a Chicago home. According to police, the boy was inside a home in the 9100 block of South Racine around 5:30 p.m. when he was struck by gunfire. He heard a loud noise inside the home during a gathering and noticed he had been shot in the thigh. 

Police say a family member transported the boy to 87th and Aberdeen, where EMS met him. He was then transported to Comer Children's Hospital, where he was initially reported in good condition. 

At 7:40 p.m. Monday, police were called to South Shore Hospital, 8012 S. Crandon Ave., after an unidentified driver dropped off a 15-year-old boy. The boy had suffered multiple gunshot wounds to the body and was later pronounced dead.

In other shootings from 5 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Tuesday:

  • At 11:23 p.m. Friday, in the 2200 block of West 21st Street, police responded to a person shot and found a 15-year-old boy who was shot in the back and torso. The victim was outside when he heard shots fired and felt pain. He was taken to Stroger Hospital in good condition. A witness told officers that the possible offender may have been traveling in a white sedan at the time of the shooting.
  • At 12:01 a.m. Saturday, in the 3400 block of West Beach Avenue, officers responded to a person shot and found a 25-year-old man with a gunshot wound to the head. The victim was taken to Stroger in critical condition. A second man, 26, was shot in the thigh and was taken to Ascension St. Mary Hospital in fair condition. 
  • At 1:58 a.m. Saturday, in the 1800 block of South Blue Island, police responded to a person shot and found a 42-year-old man with a gunshot wound to the hand. The victim related to officers that occupants from a gold SUV were exchanging gunfire with occupants of a dark-colored sedan. The victim was taken to UIC in good condition. 
  • At 2:24 a.m. Saturday, in the 7600 block of South Stewart Avenue, police found a 27-year-old man with a gunshot wound to the leg. A witness told officers that an occupant traveling in a vehicle shot at the victim. The victim was transported to UIC in fair condition. 
  • At 5:12 a.m. Saturday, in the 2000 block of East 70th Street, a woman, 32, and a man, 40, were outside at the above location when an unknown offender exited from a dark-in-color sedan and began to fire shots in their direction. The woman was shot in her hand and was taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center in good condition. The man suffered a graze wound to his right arm and refused EMS.
  • At 4:38 a.m. Saturday, in the 700 block of South Wentworth Avenue, a 28-year-old man was outside when a white-in-color sedan approached, and an unknown offender began to fire shots in his direction. The victim was shot in his abdomen and self-transported to Advocate Christ in good condition. 
  • At 7:53 a.m. Saturday, in the 4200 block of West Adams, the victim, a 53-year-old woman, was found unresponsive inside a residence and was pronounced dead. Area Detectives are questioning a person of interest and the circumstances surrounding this incident are under investigation.
  • At 3 p.m. Saturday in the 4400 block of South LeClaire, a 50-year-old man was in a garage when an unknown person came in and shot him in the legs. The victim was transported to Mount Sinai Hospital in good condition. 
  • At 2:48 p.m. Saturday in the 1100 block of West 58th Street, a 20-year-old man was found lying on the sidewalk with a gunshot wound to the upper chest. He was transported to the University of Chicago Medical Center, where he died. 
  • At 4:54 p.m. Saturday in the 4600 block of West 84th Place, a 17-year-old was near the sidewalk when he was struck by gunfire to the thigh. He returned fire with his gun, but it's unclear if anyone was hit. The victim was transported to Advocate Christ Medical Center in good condition.
  • At 11:31 p.m. Saturday, in the 5100 block of West Madison Street, officers responded to a shots fired call and found three men, all with gunshot wounds. A 26-year-old man was shot in the right leg and self-transported to West Suburban Hospital in good condition. A 25-year-old man was shot in the back and self-transported to Stroger Hospital in good condition. A 47-year-old man suffered multiple gunshot wounds to the left and right side of his body and was taken to Mt Sinai Hospital in critical condition.
  • At 12:51 a.m. Sunday, in the 12900 block of South Morgan Street, police responded to Ingalls Hospital, where a family member took a 32-year-old man after he was shot in the chest while standing outside. The victim is listed in critical condition.
  • At 2:45 a.m. Sunday, in the 3500 block of West 12th Place, police responded to a person shot and found two men, 20 and 21, who were both struck by gunfire. The victims were outside when they heard shots fired and felt pain. The 21-year-old was shot in the foot and taken to Mt. Sinai in good condition. The 20-year-old was struck once in the thigh and was taken to St. Anthony Hospital in good condition. 
  • At 11:10 a.m. Sunday, in the 7000 block of South Maplewood Avenue, a 24-year-old man was standing outside when a white SUV occupied by two unknown offenders approached. One of the offenders fired shots in the victim's direction, striking him in the left armpit. The victim was transported to Christ Hospital in good condition. 
  • At 1:31 p.m. Sunday, in the 2200 block of West Pershing Road, a male victim, 29, was near the sidewalk when he was struck in the legs by gunfire. The victim was transported to Mt. Sinai Hospital and initially reported in fair condition.
  • At 5:19 a.m. Sunday in the 3300 block of North Marshfield Avenue, a 28-year-old man was inside a home when he was shot. He was transported to Masonic Hospital, where he was listed in critical condition. 
  • At 6:50 p.m. Sunday in the 1400 block of West 89th Street, a 32-year-old man was near the sidewalk when he was approached by an unknown person who shot him. The victim was struck in the thigh and was transported to Advocate Christ Medical Center, where he was initially reported to be in fair condition. 
  • At 5:05 p.m. Sunday in the 2900 block of West Walnut Street, a male victim of unknown age was shot multiple times. He was transported to Stroger Hospital in critical condition. 
  • At 9:30 p.m. Sunday, a 33-year-old man walked into Stroger Hospital of Cook County after being shot in the left hand in the 3000 block of West Washington Boulevard in East Garfield Park. Police said the victim was very uncooperative and would not answer any questions.
  • At 9:38 p.m. Sunday in the 400 block of North Central Avenue in South Austin, a 27-year-old man was walking in the alley when he was shot in the left leg and arm. He was transported to Mount Sinai Hospital in critical condition. 
  • At 10:44 p.m. Sunday, a 34-year-old man was driving east on 46th Street at Rockwell Street in Brighton Park when he saw five or six men standing on the street, heard shots, and felt pain. The victim was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital in good condition with a gunshot wound to the right hand.
  • At 11:34 p.m. Sunday, a 33-year-old woman was standing on the sidewalk in the 600 block of East 86th Street in Chatham when she saw a black sedan pull up and someone inside fire shots. The victim was shot in the right leg and was taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center in good condition.
  • At 11:42 p.m. Sunday, a man in his late 20s was walking to a vehicle in the 6300 block of West Catalpa Avenue in Jefferson Park when he heard shots and felt pain. He had been shot in the left and right leg and groin and was taken to Advocate Lutheran General Medical Center in Park Ridge in critical condition. 
  • At 1:23 a.m. Monday, a 26-year-old man got into a quarrel with another man in the 300 block of North Cicero Avenue in South Austin. The second man took out a gun, shot the first man, and then ran off. The victim was shot in the left foot and refused medical attention.
  • At 9:43 a.m. Monday, a 24-year-old man was walking toward his car in the 7600 block of South Carpenter Street in Auburn Gresham when another car pulled up. Someone exited that car and tried to rob the victim at gunpoint. The victim was a concealed carry holder with his own gun – and the robber and victim shot each other. The victim was shot twice in the abdomen, while the robber was shot in the head and back leg and twice in the back. Both were taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center in critical condition.
  • At 12:46 p.m. Monday, a 26-year-old man was in his home in the 2100 block of North Meade Avenue in Galewood when an invader entered. The man shot the invader twice in the chest. The invader left the house but was discovered a short distance away. He was taken to Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood, and charges are pending.
  • At 3:15 p.m. Monday, a 48-year-old man was sitting in a vehicle in the 11500 block of South Church Street in Morgan Park when a white vehicle pulled up, and someone inside got out and shot him. The victim was shot in the left arm and right side of his abdomen and was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn in serious condition.
  • At 6:25 p.m. Monday, a 48-year-old man was found shot in the 6700 block of South Evans Avenue in Woodlawn. He suffered multiple gunshot wounds to the right hip and was reported to be in critical condition.
  • At 9:50 p.m. Monday, a 23-year-old man shot in the chest was dropped off at a Chicago Fire Department firehouse at Midway International Airport in the 5200 block of West 63rd Street. The victim was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center, where he died.
  • At 10:59 p.m. Monday, officers responding to a call of a person shot in the 500 block of West Wrightwood found a 24-year-old man who had been shot in both legs. He was taken to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center in critical condition.
  • At 1:36 a.m. Tuesday, four people were shot during an argument in the 4200 block of West Gladys in West Garfield Park. A 19-year-old woman, a 20-year-old man, and an 18-year-old man all were taken to hospitals in good condition with gunshot wounds. An 18-year-old man who suffered a graze wound refused medical attention.
  • At 3:55 a.m. Tuesday, a 26-year-old man was outside in the first block of West 107th Street when someone started shooting at him, and he returned fire. The man was shot multiple times, and someone started taking him to the hospital before crashing near the 5900 block of South Wentworth. He was then taken to St. Bernard Hospital, where he died.
