Knife-Wielding Robber Confronts Mother In Woodridge

(CBS) -- Police in southwest suburban Woodridge are looking for the man with a butcher knife who robbed a woman in a grocery store parking lot while her children were in the car.

The suspect wore a hooded sweatshirt with a scarf over his face.

CBS Pamela Jones reports the incident is unnerving for a lot of residents.

Police say it happened in broad daylight at 1 p.m. Thursday at a Jewel-Osco parking lot on 75th Street.

A mom had just loaded groceries into her car when a man flashed a large kitchen knife and jumped into the passenger seat.

He stole the woman's cell phone and some cash and forced the woman to drive off, all with the woman's children sitting in the car.

Woodridge Police Chief Gina Grady says investigators would like a better photo to help find the suspect.

She says the robber even demanded that the victim drive to her bank to get more cash. They drove almost 10 miles before police say he got out of the car at Naperville-Plainfield and Boughton roads.

Anyone with information is asked to call Woodridge police.
