Jury Convicts Craigslist Rape Suspect

WOODSTOCK, Ill. (AP) -- A McHenry County jury has found a suburban Chicago man guilty of raping a woman he met through Craigslist.

Charles R. Oliver of Woodstock is accused of raping eight women, many of them prostitutes, who responded to his online ads for sex. His attorney is seeking separate trials for each case.

Oliver was convicted Friday of raping a 22-year-old Chicago woman he agreed to pay $200 for sex. Prosecutors contended the 45-year-old Oliver pushed the woman to the floor in his locked basement laundry room Nov. 6, 2012, before videotaping them having sex in his bedroom. Defense attorneys argued the sex was consensual.

Although the woman went to authorities the next day, Oliver wasn't arrested until January 2013 after soliciting a Huntley woman to come to his house for sex.
