Judge To Consider Drew Peterson Bid To Toss Prison Wiretaps
CHESTER, Ill. (AP) -- Convicted murderer Drew Peterson is due back in court as a southern Illinois judge reviews a request by the former suburban Chicago police officer to exclude wiretap evidence in a murder-for-hire case.
The ex-Bolingbrook sergeant is charged with soliciting an inmate to kill Will County State's Attorney James Glasgow, who prosecuted the 2012 case in which Peterson was sentenced to 38 years in prison for the bathtub drowning death of ex-wife Kathleen Savio.
Peterson argues Glasgow's office should have deferred its role investigating the case to a special prosecutor. He also questions why a Will County judge met with a jailhouse informant before considering the request to secretly record Peterson.
A hearing on those pretrial motions is scheduled for Tuesday in advance of a trial slated to start in mid-November.
