Jose Abreu, White Sox Avoid Arbitration With $10.8M Deal

(CBS) The White Sox and first baseman Jose Abreu have avoided arbitration by agreeing to a one-year, $10.825-million deal, the team announced Saturday.

The 29-year-old Abreu hit .293 with 25 homers, 100 RBIs an .820 OPS in 2016. He's hit the 25-homer, 100-RBI mark in each of his first three MLB seasons.

Back in November, Abreu opted for arbitration when he had three years and $34 million left on his deal, hoping to make more money over the remainder of his contract.

As the White Sox have embarked on an organizational rebuild, Abreu remains a trade candidate.
