Jimmy Fallon, Mayor Emanuel Take Polar Plunge In Lake Michigan

CHICAGO (CBS) — A record number of people - including a few celebrities - turned out at North Avenue Beach for the Polar Plunge to benefit Special Olympics.

WBBM's Steve Miller reports Mayor Emanuel welcomed Tonight Show star Jimmy Fallon with a proclamation and a gift for Fallon's baby daughter. Winnie Rose: a onesie from the Billy Goat.

"So Winnie Rose will always remember Chicago, your little seven-month-old, the Billy Goat. So after you take her out of the bath, and I hope it is a little warmer than today, and always remember us, cheeseburger, cheeseburger, cheeseburger," said Emanuel.

Fallon praised the spirit of Chicago for raising money by enduring an icy jump in the Lake.

"Hopefully, I make it back to the Tonight Show unless we are going to do the Tonight Show from Chicago from now on," said Fallon.

The money raised by the Polar Plunge goes to the Special Olympics. More than 3,200 people took part and just under $1 million was raised, which are both records.
