JetBlue Flight Diverted To Chicago After Passenger Disturbance

(CBS) -- A JetBlue flight from New York City to Salt Lake City had to be diverted Sunday evening due to a passenger creating a disturbance, Chicago police said.

The flight was diverted at 9:15 p.m. and after landing, a 32-year-old woman who was creating a disturbance was transported to a hospital for evaluation, police said.

The plane was carrying police officers returning from the funeral of a New York police officer who was murdered last month.

Officials say the passenger tried to "take" a bottle of pills. That's when Utah officers took action.

A JetBlue spokesman released a statement saying, "On January 4, flight 71 from New York's JFK Airport (JFK) to Salt Lake City International Airport (SLC), diverted to Chicago's O'Hare Airport (ORD) after a medical/security issues was reported in the cabin. The aircraft landed safely, without incident, and was met by first responders. A customer was taken to a local hospital for further evaluation."
