Javy Baez Is Heating Up

(CBS) After struggling mightily at Triple-A Iowa for the season's first six weeks, Javy Baez has gone on a tear.

Regarded as one of baseball's top prospects, Baez has a seven-game hitting streak in which he's gone 13-for-28 (.464) with three homers, five doubles and six RBIs. That's raised his batting average to .201 after he was hitting .142 through May 15.

"Hitting at the higher levels is really all about preparation and trying to figure out what guys are trying to do to get you out," Iowa Cubs hitting coach Brian Harper told MiLB.com. "At the lower levels, you can go on ability, but not in Triple-A. Javy's just starting to get a good handle on that."

Baez, 21-year-old shortstop, had perhaps his best night of the season Thursday, going 4-of-5 with a homer, two doubles, two RBIs and two runs. The homer was not for the faint of heart, either, as it left the stadium. Click here to see it.
