James Corden On Late Late Show, Youtube Success

(CBS) -- He may be the guy more excited than anyone about the debut of the Late Show with Stepen Colbert. James Corden has been patiently waiting for his lead in to get started.

CBS 2's Megan Glaros recently sat down with Corden in Los Angeles about his own success already both on CBS and on Youtube.

He may be a relative newcomer to the late, late night landscape, but James Corden is making huge strides, with huge stars. He's funny and fearless.

"There were times when we were shooting that where I was like, technically we're the same species, but we're really not you know," Corden says.

Band leader Reggie Watts says, "James is killing it. I mean, from the very first show we had, really. It benefits that he's an actor because he can get inside of a role."

"You just sorta gotta go for it," Corden says. "You just gotta jump and hope the parachute opens, and if it doesn't there's always a show tomorrow."

Corden is part of the new wave of late night hosts who understand that tonight's show won't always be watched tonight. He's a master of creating bits that rock the social media landscape.

"We just don't want to be a show that's constrained by the slot that we're in," Corden says. "We want to make a show that people will enjoy either when it goes out at 12:35, or at they enjnoy it at their desk at work at 12:35 in the afternoon."

A perfect example of a Corden clip that blows up on Youtube -- the Nuzzle Waaa? game, where big celebs are blindfolded, and have to guess the object, but nuzzling it -- no hands!

From success on stage, to success on late night, James Corden has maintained his guy next door friendliness, perhaps part of what makes him so popular.

"I love the people of Chicago, and I'm sorry it's so cold there," Corden says.

You can catch James Corden right after the Late Show with Stephen Colbert at 11:37 p.m. on CBS 2.
