ITT Tech Nursing Students Held Graduation Ceremony After School Closed

CHICAGO (CBS) -- ITT Tech nursing students held Thursday a graduation ceremony after the school closed it's doors for good on Tuesday.

The students said they completed all their classes over the last two years. The makeshift event is the closest the students will come to a formal class ceremony, CBS 2's Jeremy Ross reports.

When ITT Tech closed all of its campuses, it meant this was the final Merriville class posing for pictures.

At the moment, students cannot take the test allowing them to be registered nurses. The test requires information from the school including proof of graduation and a transcript.

A source told CBS 2, ITT Tech is working with another company to share that information, but when that will happen is anyone's guess.

Most students took home diplomas, with more than 30 students walking across the stage with a sense of pride, about to enter a state of professional limbo.

CBS 2 reached out to both ITT Tech and the agency overseeing the registered nursing exams. Neither have responded with comment.

The building where the event took place usually charges $600 rental fee, but considering the situation the students were put in, the hall gave them the space free of charge.
