CHICAGO (CBS)--  Illinois State Police are investigating a shooting on the Stevenson Expressway Thursday morning.

The inbound Stevenson re-opened around 7 a.m. after lanes were shut down to search for evidence near Damen.

CBS 2's Shardaa Gray reported from 35th and the Dan Ryan where a couple stopped after their car window was shot out on I-55.

The couple said they were heading into work when their window was shot out on I-55, but it ended near the Dan Ryan.

ISP responded to the report of shots fired on I-55 near Damen, where state troopers closed the inbound lanes.

The husband says this happened around 6 a.m. this morning.

He said he was driving in their work van when gunfire blew out their passenger right side back window.

They kept driving to get away from the gunfire and eventually pulled over to call police near 31st and the Dan Ryan.

"My wife, she was really close to where the impact was. She was shaken, but she was fine. When we know that she was ok, we just tried to get out of the area," the husband said.

He also said he's heard of several expressway shootings, but he never thought he and his wife would become a victim - especially on their way to work.

He says now they have to find an alternate route to work.
