Iowa Man Charged In Fatal Christmas Shooting In North Lawndale

CHICAGO (CBS) -- A man has been charged in connection with a domestic-related shooting on Christmas Day that left one man dead and another wounded in the North Lawndale neighborhood on the West Side.

Lorenzo Jones, 29, of Iowa City, Iowa, is charged with first-degree murder, attempted first-degree murder and aggravated battery with discharge of a firearm, according to Chicago Police.

About 6 p.m. on Dec. 25, 2014, Jones shot two men during a domestic argument in the 1900 block of South Trumbull, a statement from police said.

Dennis Jones, 52, of the 4900 block of West Augusta, was shot in his torso and leg, and taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 8:22 p.m., authorities said. The other man, 42, was shot in the leg and took himself to Mount Sinai.

Police said at the time the shooter was thought to be a relative of the victims, who drove off in a blue vehicle.

Jones was arrested in Iowa and extradited to Chicago, police said. He is scheduled to appear in bond court Wednesday.
