Opinion: 'Instagram Husbands' Understandably Tired of Taking Wives' Photos

CHICAGO (CBS) — Heterosexual husbands don't have it easy these days. Not only are they nudged to do more housework, they have become human selfie sticks. This week a humorous and slightly depressing video surfaced of "Instagram Husbands," men who are forced to capture every important and inane moment in their wives' lives.

It's hard not to cringe while watching the video because I see this in my own marriage. Just about every time my partner and I do something other than binge watch Law & Order, the evening is not complete unless I post a photo of me or of us looking insanely happy. I see the same phenomenon among my friends.

When did we become so narcissistic? When did it become so important for our family, friends and strangers to know how we spend every moment of our days?

Before paralyzing despair and self loathing set in, I tell myself that people probably went gaga over snail mail (poor postal carriers). And then the telephone. And then email. Who's to say that we won't eventually get bored with trying to convey unattainable perfection?

I'm sure that will happen, eventually. In the meantime, let me just grab my phone for a sec. I see a really cute photo opp right around the corner.
