Inmate Charged With Throwing Feces At Cook County Jail Guard

(CBS) -- A man already detained in the Cook County Jail was charged after he allegedly threw feces at a jail guard Tuesday afternoon.

Vernon Patterson, 26, hit a jail guard in the head and face with his feces about 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, the sheriff's office alleges. Patterson has been in the jail since December after he was charged with home invasion with a firearm.

Patterson "refused to comply with verbal orders" and other jail guards eventually used pepper spray on him, according to the sheriff's office. The correctional deputy was taken to a hospital for an evaluation.

Patterson was charged with two counts of aggravated battery to a peace officer and his bail was set at $100,000 at a hearing Wednesday, according to the sheriff's office.
