Indiana Authorities Hunt For Escapee

Listen to Indiana Man On Probation Flees

(CBS) -- There's a manhunt going on in Lake County, Ind.

It was about 1:30 p.m. Thursday when 36-year-old Dennis McCay of Merrillville checked in with his probation office in Crown Point, says Patti Van Til, spokeswoman for the Lake County Sheriff's office.

"He was advised that his probation had been revoked and there was a warrant issued for him. He then fled from the probation office to the area surrounding the Lake County government center to the north," she says.

Later, Van Til says, officers found McCay's GPS monitoring bracelet in a field nearby.  The bracelet had apparently been cut off.

McCay had been on probation for a Class D felony -- neglect of a dependent.  According to Lake County court records, an associated charge of molesting a 12-year-old relative had been dropped.
