In Tweet From Space, Chicago Lights Up The Night

By John Dodge

CHICAGO (CBS) -- The "grid" is unmistakable, the landmarks, and even newer, modern LED street lights all vividly captured ... from space.

Astronauts on the International Space Station have been tweeting photos of Earth for years, but the images of our city continue to delight us.

A post on Chicago's Reddit page took note of the brighter LED lights along a stretch of Elston.

One is also struck by the dark patches dotting the landscape, such as Graceland and Rosehill cemeteries on the North Side and Oak Woods on the South Side. The outlines of Navy Pier, the Adler Planetarium and Montrose Beach cut out into the blackness of Lake Michigan.

And, if one rotates the photo clockwise, the image takes on a map-like quality.
