In Cold Weather, A Great Offer On Soup For Elderly

CHICAGO (CBS) -- Finally, something good associated with the brutally low temperatures.

The company that operates three Mather's restaurants in Chicago is selling soup based on the temperature through the end of February.

Spokeswoman Lori Keenan said that with the temperature dipping to five-below zero on Monday, the restaurants were paying customers a nickel to eat their soup.

Evanston-based Mather LifeWays is non-profit organization that offers programs and residences for older adults.

Keenan says the soup program is designed to give older adults a place to go where they won't be pressured to leave after a certain amount of time has elapsed.
