Illinois Woman Arrested For Burglary Dies In Custody In N.Y.

SYRACUSE, N.Y. (AP) -- Authorities say a Chicago-area woman has died in custody two days after she and three other suspects in a burglary ring were arrested in central New York.

The Onondaga County Sheriff's Office says 26-year-old Chanel Lakatosz of Norridge, Illinois, was found unresponsive Tuesday morning in her cell at the Justice Center in Syracuse.

Officials say she was taken to Upstate University Hospital, where she was pronounced dead. The sheriff's office says it's investigating the cause of death.

Lakatosz was one of four Chicago-area residents arrested at a Syracuse hotel Sunday. The other suspects include two men from Norridge and one from Chicago.

Police say they were members of a crew that stole more than $540,000 in cash and jewelry during burglaries committed in the Syracuse area in recent years.
