If Skies Are Clear, Lunar Eclipse Visible On Sunday Night

CHICAGO (CBS) -- If the skies are clear this coming Sunday night, WBBM's Regine Schlesinger reports you'll be able to watch a total lunar eclipse over the Chicago area.

Northwestern University professor Michael Smutko says it's one of the easiest astronomical events to watch.

Starting just past 8 p.m., the full moon will gradually disappear as it moves through the Earth's shadow.

Then by around 11:30 p.m., it will be back to a full, normal moon.

If you miss this one, there won't be another full lunar eclipse visible over the Chicago area until January, 2019.

If the weather's good this Sunday, Northwestern will host a free viewing party on its Evanston campus.
