Car damaged by debris, originally reported as gunfire, on I-55 in Burr Ridge

CHICAGO (CBS) — A vehicle was left damaged after it was hit by debris Friday morning on I-55 in west suburban Burr Ridge. The damage was originally believed to have been caused by gunfire.

Around 9:30 a.m., Illinois State Police responded to a County Line Road near Milepost 277 for a report of shots fired at a vehicle. ISP said that a window of the vehicle was left shattered. All lanes were reopened in less than an hour.

Further investigation into the incident indicated that the vehicle was not shot at but was caused by other debris, according to ISP.
