Husband Killed, Wife Injured In Rollover Crash On I-65

CHICAGO (STMW) -- A 52-year-old man was killed and his wife injured when their SUV rolled over on Interstate 65 Thursday afternoon in northwest Indiana.

James A. Wagner was driving the Ford Explorer southbound on I-65 at mile marker 244.5 in Crown Point about 1 p.m. when the vehicle veered between lanes three times, went onto the inner shoulder and then started rolling, according to Indiana State Police.

Wagner was ejected from the SUV and hit a cable barrier on the median. His wife had been asleep in the front passenger seat, state police said.

The Indianapolis couple were taken to Franciscan St. Anthony Health in Crown Point, where he died at 2:49 p.m., according to the Lake County coroner's office. Her injuries weren't considered life-threatening.

Neither of them had been swearing seat belts, police said.

The cause of the crash is under investigation.
