Police Now Say Boys In Huntley Lied About Teens Duct-Taping 8-Year-Old To A Pole, Stealing His Candy

CHICAGO (CBS) -- Police in northwest suburban Huntley say two boys made up a story about being attacked by teenage bullies, who they claimed duct-taped one of them to a pole and stole his candy.

Huntley police said around 1 p.m. Monday, a woman told Huntley police her two sons, ages 6 and 8, had gone to Diecke Park and were using outdoor fitness equipment when two teenagers rode up on bicycles, grabbed the 8-year-old's wrist, stole his candy, and duct-taped him to a pole.

Deputy Police Chief Michael Klunk later said the boys later admitted making up the story, after police questioned them about inconsistencies in the story.

"Based on the multiple people and videos reviewed throughout the investigation, detectives were looking to corroborate information, at which time the juveniles ultimately recanted their story and stated that they were playing a game," Deputy Chief Michael Klunk said in a statement.

Due to their ages, the boys will not face any charges.

"The consequences will be handled by the parents," Klunk stated.
