Hundreds Of Kids Collect Candy, Toys In South Loop Easter Egg Hunt
CHICAGO (CBS) -- Hundreds of kids made quick work of an Easter egg hunt in a South Loop park Saturday afternoon.
They waited behind rope lines until hearing an organizer yell over a speaker "go go go" promptly at 12:15 before running onto the grass at Chicago Women's Park at 18th and Prairie.
President of the Prairie District Neighborhood Alliance Tina Feldstein says she personally stuffed the 12 thousand plastic eggs - each with a piece of candy, a small toy or a slip of paper for a larger prize. She says they gave away 500 tickets to White Sox games.
The tenth annual egg hunt also included a petting zoo (with bunnies), piñatas and sack races.
Children had to have a ticket to get inside. They were $12 apiece.
Feldstein says that is to keep the size of the crowd manageable, which she estimated to be two thousand people.
"In a way it's kind of a secret, we don't do any advertising, it's just word of mouth because it would fill so fast," she said. "We only have so much space."
The proceeds paid for prizes and other activities the neighborhood alliance holds throughout the year, she says.
