Hundreds Expected At Protest Outside BP Refinery In Whiting

(CBS) -- More than 1,000 people are expected to rally outside the BP Refinery in Whiting, Indiana on Sunday.

Organizers say it's part of a global 'Break Free from Fossil Fuels campaign.

Activist Olga Bautista says it's time BP end the processing of petcoke, an oil byproduct, that she says can cause serious health issues.

"The families all over this community are coming together saying that we want a different kind of community, a community that puts our health and the health of the workers in this industry and their safety first."

A spokesman for BP says the company respects the rights of citizens to peacefully protest.
