Hundreds Donate Blood For Park Ridge Teen With Cancer

(CBS) -- Hundreds of people ventured out in the snow Saturday to give blood at a church in Park Ridge for a young man from the community who is fighting for his life.

WBBM's Mike Krauser reports the parking lot was nearly full at South Park Church and inside people were rolling up their sleeves, donating blood for Jimmy's Blood Drive.

Jimmy is Maine South High School student Jimmy Rancich, who is fighting for his life.

"It is an incredible turnout. I think that it is a great sign of this boy and the community's support for him and the awareness of the need to give blood at this time of the year," said Lifesource CEO Jim Fitzgerald.

Jimmy Rancich was diagnosed last summer with an aggressive form of lymphoma.
