Hundreds Brave Cold For Chinese New Year Parade

(CBS) -- Hundreds braved the cold and snow to say hello to the "Year of the Monkey."

The Chinese New Year Parade worked its way through the heart of Chicago's Chinatown on Wentworth between 24th and Cermak.

The swirling snow and bitter cold winds didn't dampen the enthusiasm or the curiosity of the people who came to watch.

Sharon Chorva, a teacher from McKinley Park, attended the parade for the first time.

"I started working at the school over here so I decided to learn a lot about Chinese culture," Chorva said.

According to the Chinese calendar, it's the year 4714, also known as the "Year of the Monkey."
