Human remains found in basement on Chicago's South Side

CHICAGO (CBS)--  Remains were found in a basement in Chicago's Bronzeville neighborhood on Monday afternoon. 

Chicago police said the "skeletal remains" were found in a home in the 400 block of East 46th Street just before 3 p.m.

Police are investigating. 

Editor's note: This story has been updated after CBS 2 first reported that the remains were human. In fact, Chicago police were investigating the possibility that the remains may be human.
The Cook County Medical Examiner reported on Tuesday afternoon that the remains were not human. The ME did not immediately provide any additional details.
