Honey Heists Point To Furry Culprit: Bears
(CBS) – A beekeeper's honey product is proving popular with local wildlife.
Pete Livas, owner of Panos Farms in Michigan City, Ind., reports bears have broken into his hives at least twice in recent days.
Earlier this month, bears knocked down eight hives to get at the sweet stuff inside. And then Monday morning, they took another whack at the honey stock.
"They love it. They came back today," Livas tells WBBM Newsradio's Mike Krauser.
His farm produces 20,000 pounds of honey.
Livas says he hasn't seen the bears, but he heard them during the first visit. He has also seen tracks and bear droppings.
The bears have done minimal damage to the hives, the owners say.
