Homeless Man Struck And Killed By Car In Elgin

CHICAGO (STMW) -- A homeless man was fatally struck by a car last week in northwest suburban Elgin.

The 46-year-old man — identified by police as Donald G. Francis — was walking in the road at State Street and U.S. 20 about 5:25 a.m. on Dec. 9 when he was struck by a 2004 Pontiac Grand Prix, according to a statement from Elgin police.

Francis was taken to Presence Saint Joseph Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, according to police.

The driver of the Pontiac, a 54-year-old Elgin man, was not hurt, police said.

The intersection was closed for about four hours after the crash.
