Chicago Cubs Always Depicted As Lovable Losers

CHICAGO (CBS) -- The Cubs struggling to get to the World Series is a familiar punchline in movies and television shows.

But some fans think Hollywood may soon need another team to pick on, Roseanne Tellez reports.

If the lovable losers win the World Series, the jokes are over and long-suffering Cubs fans would have the last laugh.

Referenced in Back to the Future, Rookie of the Year and many other movies and TV shows, a World Series win is closer than it's ever been for some Cubs fans.

"I don't want to say were being laughed at, but like nobody ever thinks it's going to come true," fan Sue Warshol says.

"We just can't win. We're the team that can't get it together," fan Erik Bruun-Anderson says.

And Cubs fans are always vulnerable.

Last year, The Late Show host Stephen Colbert tried to reverse the famous curse.

"I've even already got my 2015 Cubs world championship shirt," he said on the show.

Mostly, the Cubs are portrayed as the lovable losers, but this year could be a game changer.

"It would be the happy ending to the perfect lovable loser movie," one fan says.
