Hobart Man Killed In I-57 Crash

CHICAGO (CBS) -- A man from northwest Indiana was killed early Friday when his car hit a truck on the shoulder of I-57.

Illinois State Police said they were notified of the crash at 12:50 a.m., in the southbound lanes of Interstate 57 near 159th Street in Markham.

Police said the driver was heading south on I-57 when his car left the road, and hit an unoccupied construction truck – a pickup truck with a cherry picker mounted on the back.

Police and the Cook County Medical Examiner's office confirmed the driver was pronounced dead. Police said the victim was from Hobart, Ind., but his name and age were not immediately available.

All southbound lanes of I-57 were shut down after the crash at 147th Street, but reopened by 5 a.m.., police said.
