(CBS) -- Authorities on Friday evening were looking for a motorist who struck at least two pedestrians on the Near North Side.

Chicago police say around 8 p.m., two women were walking westbound in the middle of the street in the 1800 block of North Clybourn, when a black Acura sedan struck them, then fled the scene.

The first victim has a broken hip and sustained life-threatening injuries to her back, buttock and abdomen, police said. She was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital in critical condition.

The second victim sustained head injuries and was also taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, however, in serious condition.

Police did not have immediate information, but CBS 2 observed officers searching for a suspect in the neighborhood.

Officials later said the offender's vehicle had been recovered, but there was no offender in custody.

Area Central detectives are investigating the incident.
