WBBM Newsradio's Regine Schlesinger reports, after finishing first in the free skate, and third in the short program at the U.S. Figure Skating Championships over the weekend, 19-year-old Jason Brown was named to the U.S. Olympic skating team for the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia.

Brown graduated a semester early from Highland Park High School last year, so he could move to Colorado to train.

In an interview with The Skating Lesson on YouTube last year, he talked about his drive to succeed, saying it's his – not his parents' – pushing him to compete.

"My parents are so not in the skating world. They don't know a flip from a lutz," he said.

Brown said he's lucky to have supportive parents.

"They've never pushed me. They've never been like 'We want you to do this.' It's always been … 'We want to support you in what you want to do,'" he said.

The first events of the Sochi Olympics start Feb. 6. The opening ceremony is on Feb. 7.
