High Waves Wreak Havoc On Lakefront Trail
(CBS) - Huge waves on Lake Michigan that flooded sections of Lake Shore Drive Friday afternoon appear to have inflicted significant damage to the Lakefront Trail.
A photo posted on Reddit shows the Lakefront Trail near 1200 North Lake Shore Drive to be severely cracked with some chunks of asphalt tossed onto the grass. Northbound lanes were covered in several inches of water Friday afternoon, particularly between North and Division.
The high waves on Friday also led to Navy Pier cancelling several events, including a haunted house and masquerade ball. Boat cruises aboard the Mystic Blue and Spirit of Chicago also were canceled.
